Margaret Willms' Story
It would soon be time to leave Little Grand Rapids. I had already sent in my resignation. Not long ago my sister Helen had visited me and I had expressed an interest in adopting a child. Her suggestion was that I shouldn't wait too long if I was going to do it because I wasn't getting any younger
My Life Story
I was born on April 22, 1972 in Hodgson, Manitoba. I was adopted at eleven months by Margaret Willms because my biological mother, Sarah Jane, thought I would be better off with Margaret, because I would probably do bad things if I stayed in Little Grand Rapids, Manitoba
Sarah Guenther's Story about Their Daughter Danita
My husband and I are the parents of four adult children who grew up on a farm in Saskatchewan. Our youngest daughter joined our family by adoption as a two-year old toddler. We enjoyed and loved our beautiful little native daughter. She was friendly, outgoing, and well adjusted and she soon bonded with her siblings, parents and grandparents
A Ray of Hope
I was not diagnosed with FASD until I was 43 yrs old and not
knowing the reasons for my actions was very frustrating. I was
really a person who wanted to do good!! I could not understand
what drove me to disappoint those I wanted to be proud of me.
Mostly, We Have Questions, Not Answers
Children and adults with FAS/E don't learn from the consequences
of their actions, no matter how carefully explained to them. Grasping
the understanding in one situation does not mean they'll know
how to apply the lesson half an hour later.
FASD and Spirituality
My 25-year-old adopted son John has FASD. Since we joined a new church that addresses FASD, he has made new friends and been asked to join the music group. John is valued and accepted by church members as a regular person.
