View MapMCC in Bosnia & HerzegovinaEurope Community DevelopmentIn Prijedor, MCC worked with Bread of Life (BoL) enabling them to donate cows to families which had been displaced from their homes for several years following a civil conflict which divided the former Yugoslavia. In return, the families agreed to return a calf to BoL who will donate it to another family in need. MCC also continues to work with another partner, Church World Service (CWS), to provide seeds for recently returned refugees in Eastern Bosnia. A portion of yield from these seeds goes to the area's soup kitchens to provide nutritious meals to members of the community. PeaceFace to Face, an organization which runs Pontanima, a multi-ethnic choir in Sarajevo, is supported by MCC. The choir, which represents all of the county's major religious and ethnic communities, received an award from the mayor of Sarajevo in 2005 for its work promoting unity. In the city of Tuzla, the Center for a Culture of Peace and Nonviolent Action provided training about trauma awareness with assistance from MCC. MCC is supporting peace education workshops in schools in Tuzla. ReliefLarge containers of food, clothing and hygiene materials sent from North America arrived in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2004. The contents were distributed by MCC partner organizations. |
