Local Initiatives
In the past 20 years, over 2,600 refugees have been sponsored through our program. In addition, our offices have worked with claimants and newcomers from over 60 countries. We offer a wide variety of settlement services for refugees, refugee claimants, and newcomers. These services are provided by MCC staff, regular volunteers, donated material aid, and the support of a broad network of churches.
Our services include:
- cultural orientation
- employment counselling
- family reunification
- home visits
- immigration advocacy
- interpretation/translation
- personal/family counselling
- referrals to other agencies
- settlement counselling
- sponsorship facilitation
The following services are only available through our Vancouver office:
- ESL through Kingcrest International
- food bank (for claimants)
- pre-employment classes through Storefront Orientation Services
