Sponsoring Refugees - Churches and groups are needed to sponsor refugees. The sponsoring church or group agrees to provide the following services to refugees:
- material assistance. This means assuming financial responsibility for one year from the date of arrival in Canada, or until the refugee becomes continuously self-supporting, whichever comes first. This includes finding suitable accommodation and providing household goods, food, and clothing.
- general orientation and moral support, including: meeting the refugees upon arrival, counselling and settlement assistance, accessing English language training, helping to find employment, and ensuring that they are aware of all federal and provincial government programs available to them.
The Refugee and Newcomer Assistance Program staff agree to:
- assist with training
- provide continuous support
- liaise with government
