MCC BC Child Poverty
Alleviation Project
The objective of MCCBC Child Poverty Alleviation Project is the empowerment of its clients: single mother refugee claimants and newly-arrived sponsored refugees in Vancouver to improve their economic conditions via selected hands-on and life-giving community activities. These are:
Nutrition enhancement through community kitchen sessions and gardening, in which clients will acquire:
- Tips for affordable nutrition management for improved eating habits and healthy living
Job search and employability skills building through work experience and/or training including ESL, in which clients will get:
- Recognition of their innate talents for development into viable career/employment tools
- Assistance with improving their ESL skills for effective employability
Asset building via efficient financial management, in which clients will learn/gain:
- Valuable financial management skills through sound advice/mentoring
- Financial empowerment plan that helps build good savings via a generous matching fund
- Guidance in investing the resulting savings in well-thought-out project that will improve and sustain their future economy
