HIV/AIDS - Be a Volunteer!

1. Support Group - meets every other week

  • Participate in Support Group meetings as a supportive and active listener

  • Call members to remind them about meeting dates

  • Pick up nutritious food for meetings (food costs covered by the program)

  • Be a coffee/tea buddy to a support group member

2. Transportation - Provide a ride to:

  • Support Group Meetings

  • Doctor's appointments

  • Local Food bank

3. New Drop-In Centre - The Lighthouse Centre

  • Serve beverages & snacks to people accessing the centre

  • Be supportive - sit and talk with people

  • Organize HIV/AIDS education and information resources

4. New HIV/AIDS Food Bank

Individuals, care groups and churches can get involved by collecting food for the new HIV/AIDS Food Bank, named “hp Food Bank” for the high protein foods required. This food bank is run by Abbotsford Community Services. The following items are needed:

  • Canned vegetables
  • Canned vegetables and beans
  • Canned meats
  • Fresh or frozen meats (stored in a freezer at the hp Food Bank)
  • Peanut butter
  • Dairy products (stored in a refrigerator at the hp Food Bank)
  • Fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Hygiene items, (i.e. laundry detergent, soap, toothpaste, deodorant, mouthwash, etc.)
