MCC Penny Power

Penny Power raises money for MCC projects of peace, relief and development around the world.

Collecting coins

Mennonite and Brethren in Christ churches have adopted Penny Power as a great intergenerational activity and collect coins year-round. The collected coins and larger donations are taken to annual relief sales, which are festivals and auctions that support MCC projects. You can come and hear the coins jingle as volunteers sort and count the change.

Creative methods for collecting coins by volunteers have included collecting coins in a wheelbarrow and a watering trough, throwing coins into a basketball hoop, using teddy bear jars as banks and giving rides in a giant hollowed-out-penny. Other tips and activities are outlined in the Penny Power website.

Get involved

You too can save your coins and make a difference or — to really see the fun — provide a match for the coins collected at your church, your relief sale or in all of your province. Come to one of the MCC BC Festivals to drop off your coins, or contact the MCC BC office for more information.

Our goal in BC for Penny Power collection in 2008 is $55,000. Penny Power 2007 donations totalled $612,551 US. Thank you!
