Place of Refuge
Place of Refuge - providing a home for those recovering
from drug and alcohol addiction.
A refuge is a place giving shelter from trouble. It is a place of
safety, acceptance, nurture and care, a temporary place to recover
strength for the journey.
For those recovering from drug and alcohol addiction, a place of
refuge is essential. Recovery is only a dream until there is a safe
place to rebuild the strength needed to live a clean and sober life.
Place of Refuge is exactly that.
The Place of Refuge Society was formed to provide a spiritual,
physical, social and emotional refuge for those on the journey of
recovery.
In partnership with Hope for Freedom Society, Place of Refuge
will provide a long-term transitional living environment in South
Vancouver, offering a safe place to learn and receive spiritual
nurturing, additional living skills and job training.
Quotes:
We
often have people come into the church seeking help to start their
lives over to leave a destructive patter of living and return
to a constructive lifestyle. They tell us that the downtown shelters
are not in a good environment. We are convinced that the need is
real and that we can help. Garry Janzen, Pastor, Sherbrooke
Mennonite Church.
When
I see how this ministry has changed live, I feel privileged to be
a part of it. Erich Krause, Board Chairman
We
have lepers in our culture. They are those among us
that suffer from addiction. I have been profoundly touched by being
privileged to work among them and help them find recover. I believe
Jesus is served when we serve the suffering addict. Rob
Thiessen, Hope for Freedom Society
I
used to feel helpless when a person overwhelmed by addiction would
come to our church door for help. Now I feel empowered. Place of
Refuge exists to empower the recovering addict and anyone who has
ever wanted to help but didnt know how. - Juliet Henderson,
founding Board Member.
