MCC Camping Trip Connecting People and Place, July 14-18, 2008

Come camping with MCC! Connecting People and Place is an opportunity
for you to tour beautiful northern Vancouver Island. Together we’ll discover the history and ecology of this part of the Island. This trip is an opportunity to listen, learn and become friends as we explore the environment that sustains us all.

Schedule:

Monday, July 14:
Travel to Port McNeil - Cluxewe Campground

Tuesday - Thursday , July 15-17:
possibilities include a tour of Dave Jacobson's studio, a trip in his traditional canoe, visiting with other Kwaguilth folks, ferry (or water taxi ) to Alert Bay to tour the Umista Cultural Centre and the old residential school, live Kwaguilth Theatre, a traditional salmon bbq on the beach, visit to Gwa'sala Nakwaxda'xw  community including their wonderful school, etc....

Friday, July 18:
Travel home - individuals are welcome to extend their visit on their own time

Schedule is tentative and may change to accommodate your suggestions or local initiatives. Free time and family activities will be encouraged.

Logistics:

Tour participants should be prepared to be self-sufficient in a camping
environment. All gear, transportation and campground expenses, entrance fees and meals are to be borne by participants.
MCC is responsible for booking sites, coordinating and leading the tour. Cost is $50 per family or $25 per person charged to cover administrative costs.
