Angela, the junior quilt-maker
Angie is ten and likes to sew, especially quilts. Last winter Angie
attended an MCC evening at the Bergthal Mennonite Church in Didsbury.
The guest speaker (Doreen Epp Saskatchewan) had just returned
from visiting Russia and Germany. She spoke of the desperate needs of
the people there. It was at this meeting that Angie made the choice
to donate the quilt she had made, even though she had become attached
to it and had wanted to keep it for herself.
In Angies family she is the third generation to be active in
making blankets for MCC. Grandpa Abe cut blocks for over twenty years,
working at it every winter until his death a few years ago at the age
of 96. Grandma sewed a lot of them together. A few years after daughter-in-law
Lorelie joined the family. She too commenced sewing. Besides helping
her girls, Angie and Jennifer to sew, Lorelei got her older sister and
cousin making them as well.
