About BrazilWell known for its provision of anti-retroviral drugs, Brazil has done much to contain HIV/AIDS infections in the country. However, gaps still exist and churches and communities have an important role to play. Many people are still at risk of infection, and those living with HIV/AIDS face much stigma.
MCC Supports:Association of Solidarity in Action (ASAS)ASAS was founded in 1992 by Christians from a variety of denominations and professions that were concerned about discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS and their families. While this is still at the core of their work, they are now involved in activities such as: support for patients, advocating for rights for people living with HIV/AIDS and ensuring their inclusion in public policy decisions, prevention among youth, and increasing the involvement and role of the church in AIDS education and stigma reduction. ASAS also supports income generation activities, counseling and chaplaincy for AIDS patients. $15 Cdn./$12 U.S. a day covers the cost of transportation for staff, patients and workshop participants. $40 Cdn./$32 U.S. a month covers the cost of an on-site chaplain. If contributions to a project exceed the amount needed, MCC will use the donations to support similar projects. |
