Bullying Stories

In my childhood I was constantly verbally attacked and told I was nothing and would amount to nothing. Now I recognize that I am verbally abusive.

I know I was verbally abused and I still think "but maybe I caused it!" At times I was reduced to almost a catatonic state when I could not think or function. This could last for several hours or occasionally up to a day.

I'm not sure how it started. We were in grade six and the kid had red hair and freckles and glasses. And he was fat. It was like he was just walking around with a "Victim" sign stamped on his forehead. Anyway, I started calling him "carrot-head" and "four-eyes", really clever thing like that.

Some of the other kids would laugh when I did this and that really got me going. This kid, he would never stand up for himself. He would just ignore me and then pretty soon a couple of the other kids started in on him too. After a while it became the focus of our school day. Before school, on the bus, during recess, lunch hour and after school. Every day. We just got meaner and meaner and the kids who were into it with me, we became this kind of gang. Nothing like the gangs you see nowadays, no weapons or anything like that. We did throw stuff at him, small rocks and snowballs and dried up horse "apples".
