Professional Misconduct

What a Victim Can Do

It is not your job to protect the professional/clergy or the organization/congregation.

  • Talk with someone you trust, get help for yourself
  • Report the incident/s immediately
  • Document and date a detailed account of the incidents
  • Consider filing a formal complaint
  • Consider obtaining legal council

What rights can the victim, the accused, and others involved expect?

  • To be heard and taken seriously
  • To be dealt with in a timely manner
  • To be informed about applicable professional procedure
  • To be assured that justice will be pursued through the procedures
  • To be offered an advocate
  • To receive a plan, designed with you to assist in the reimbursement of counselling and other related fees
  • To receive support in moving toward healing
