Sexual Harassment

Definitions

Sexual Harassment is any unwanted and unwelcome behavior of a sexual or gender-specific nature that interferes with a person's ability to work, get an education, or do a ministry.

Three important elements are:

  1. The behavior is unwelcome or unwanted
  2. It is of a sexual nature or is gender directed
  3. The impact of the behaviour interferes with the ability for someone to do a job, receive an education, or to do a ministry.

 

U.S./Canadian Legal Definitions of Sexual Harassment

  1. quid pro quo harassment
    Pressure to trade sexual favors in return for some reward (job, promotion, grade).
  2. hostile environment harassment
    Behavior that creates an intimidating or offensive working environment.
