Cluster bombs
|
Long after wars in distant places disappear from the headlines in our newspapers, these wars continue to haunt the people who must live in their aftermath. Even the land itself can become an enemy to be feared because of lethal ordnance left behind. This video clip tells the story of cluster bomb use around the world and the efforts to find and safely destroy them. An international treaty, signed in December of 2008, bans cluster bomb production and use. While more than half the world’s producing nations have signed the treaty and are destroying their stocks, several major producers have refused to sign, including the United States, China, Russia, Israel, Pakistan and India. You can urge the U.S. to greatly restrict its use of cluster munitions by supporting the Cluster Munitions Civilian Protection Act by clicking here. More stories and resources: |
